The False King

[Shani]

March 13th, year 1

Shani let out a small grunt as she pulled another herb out of the ground. She had offered to go gather supplies, simply to get her mind off of things. Everything had finally slowed down after the chaos from the ocean battle, but something was still bugging Shani. Something in the back of her mind pricked and proded like a flea.

Shaking her head slightly, she went back to the task at hand, carefully wapping her jaws around another herb and tugging it out of the ground, before placing it in her bags.
Her ears twitched when she heard pawsteps approach, and caught the scent of the one lion she least wanted to talk to at the moment,
"What do you want, Kopa?"

[Kopa]

"Woah, calm down," he said defensively. Kopa wasn't in the mood to deal with her attitude. He walked up to her. "What's your problem with me anyway?" He said angrily. He was fed up of her being so hostile to him all the time.

[Shani]

"I am calm," Shani replied, the hint of a bitter tone lacing her voice. She continued to tug and one of the herbs, violently yanking it out of the ground just as Kopa asked what her problem was.
Dropping the herb in her bag, she let out a short, stiff sigh,
"Where do you want me to start, Kopa?"

Finally turning to face him, she didn't bother to hide the frown etched on her face,
"Your attitude, for one. You act arrogant, you don't take other people's feelings into consideration, and your tone of voice is always just so... so... ugh,"
she picked up the dropped herb and placed it into her bag, before continuing,
"Even now, I can hear it in the inflections in your voice. You always sound like your whining, or angry, and you have no idea how grating that can be. Geez, you really remind me of your dad sometimes... and trust me, that's not a compliment."

[Kopa]

Kopa's eyes narrowed. "Well...I already knew that! That not why you detest me though. It's something worse." He was tired of her saying the same thing. "What is the real reason you hate me?" He growled stepping forward slightly pushing her.

[Shani]

"If you already knew that, why did you ask?" Shani bit back, her tone growing ever more annoyed. She really didn't need this right now. She had turned to go back to her gathering, only to be pushed by a sharp jab to the side. Not expecting this, the shove sent her tumbling into the dirt.

His growl reached her ears as she managed to roll back onto her stomach, and at that point, all bets were off. Snapping her gaze in his direction, she growled back,
"Look at you, pushing people around just like Simba did. Your dad wasn't a good lion Kopa, and you really are following in his pawsteps. In case you forgot, Simba let a bunch of freedom fighters die when he ordered the assasination on Jafar. He sent my mom to her death that day! Do you get it now Kopa?!"

Tears were welling in her eyes at this point, but she was so angry that she didn't care. The smaller lion got to her paws, squaring her shoulders as she yelled,
"I HATE your dad! I'm GLAD Jasper had him killed!"

There was a long silent pause, before Shani realized what she had just blurted out. It also became evident that their argument had caught the attention of some pride members, since they were no longer alone.

[Kopa]

Kooa roared in anger and pounced on Shani, pinning her, anger burning in his blue eyes.
"What!?" Yelled Kopa in her face. "Jasper did what?!" He was so angry, he barely heard what else she had said.

[Afua]

Afua's eyes were the size of dinner plates as he heard the roar of his best friend and he knew that someone or something had enraged his best friend. "Kopa? Kopa what is it, what's-" he was cut off as he finds the scene in front of him. "Kopa, what the hell?! Get off her!" with a growl Afua lunged into his friend's side tackling the young prince off the blind cub. "The hell, what the hell man?! Why did you attack her?!" red colored orbs glare into those of Kopa's baby blues

Mega stops in his tracks having been close enough to the pair having just about to go out on a short hunt for his own food, even though there was nothing wrong with Silver's meals the lion would rather just not bother the cook. Ears flick forward, praying that he had heard wrong.

"What?!" Kanzi had sprung to their paws. Their legs shook as though they had run all the way from Pride Rock to Flat Ridge Rock. It was like all the blood in the lion's veins had turned to ice. No, they must have heard her wrong. There's no way...

Kopa tackled Shani to the ground. Kanzi would have shoved Kopa off in any other circumstance, but this time, they did no such thing. Kanzi's heterochromia eyes were blank with disbelief. They were not sure which was more devastating: the fact that Jasper did it or the fact that Shani was glad it happened. 

"How could you, Shani?" they asked unsteadily. "I-I thought you were my friend..."

[Shani]

Shani had let out a strangled yowl when Kopa pinned her to the ground, feeling claws dangerously close to her stomach. She squirmed and wiggled, batting at his paw to try and get him off her, as his heavier wight pressed down on her chest, making it harder to breath.
Luckily Afua had come to her rescue, and quickly shoved him off, allowing Shani to scramble to her paws, taking several steps back from the angry lion.

She heard Kanzi's shaking words clear as day over Afua giving Kopa an earful, and turned her head to face them. Her whole body was shaking, the young medic felt like throwing up, but she had let the cat out of the bag, the least she could do was explain, she owed her friend that much.
"Kanzi... your dad he... he was sick. Something was wrong with him."

Shani took a breath, trying to steady herself, remembering the conversation she had heard between Jasper and Hikaru that night,
"Kanzi, he sent my mother to die, along with half of the freedom fighter army, and he didn't care. You all have your family, but mama was all I had back then!
If he lived, he would have sent all of us to the same fate, even you guys, his family! He was dangerous! Jasper didn't want to do it, but he didn't have any other choice!"

She turned her attention to all of them,
"Simba would have ended up killing us all! It was him, or everyone else..."

[Kiara]

"... What?"


The voice, hushed and hoarse, seemed to echo in Kiara's mind. She'd not been present for the initial fight between brother and friend but had been merely passing by. It had been the sight of Kopa pushing Shani to the ground and pinning her that had summoned a snarl to the young lioness' muzzle and sent her galloping towards them. Grief caused her rage to flare easily, and her only thoughts were for Kopa's apparent bullying. How dare he treat one of their own in such a way, especially when Shani was so much smaller than he! Kiara had been prepared to give her brother a good tongue-lashing even as Afua pulled him off of the smaller feline, but...

Claws emerged to dig into the ground as Kiara slowed to a halt a few meters from the small gathering. "What," she repeated, her expression stricken with blank shock. For a moment this was all that could be registered on the young teen's face. Then... Kiara's countenance hardened. Stiff as stone and with eyes a dreadful cold she advanced again, claws unsheathed. She brushed past Kanzi, Afua, Kopa, to stand before her friend. "Our father was killed in an ambush by the Blackblood Legion. Explain that."
