Whether the Gourmand truly means his tone or not, it seems to work just fine. Each word he offers seems to tense Huela up a bit from her defeated posture, like a little clockwork doll. Even in the dark, it’s easy to see the deep contrast across her face; she’s blushing.
“Th-there’s no need to tease, Sir! I— ah..— knowhowawkwardI’mbeing,” she murmurs, pressing her cheek into her hand with a light huff and an attempt to steady herself, “It’s just... I don’t want to inconvenience you with anything, you know? You’re powerful, brilliant with weapons and machinery. If everyone left you to your own devices, you could probably flatten that glorified rock of theirs in less than twenty-four hours. I—“
There’s a noise here, a bit of snorted laughter.
“All those hero-sorts back at the meeting would probably kick me across the Serengeti for admitting it, but I think that’s awe inspiring.”
There’s a small hang of silence here, as she seems to drift lightly in thought. A soft grunt sounds from the smaller creature, however, and she seems to be back on track.
“B-but yeah. If that’s not your thing, that’s not your thing, I want to respect that. But, if the offer’s still open, I would still like to ride with you until we’re out of, you know, ‘About to piss off a lot of really big predators’ territory.”
Relations between Geck and their protective predators wasn’t unheard of, albeit uncommon. When the little creatures poured their heart and soul into assisting their largers, things had a chance to develop, and the little species were often praised for their resilience and durability when being manhandled.. But it wasn’t something Huela herself had experienced before. Sure, there were nice looking guards on her home planet, and her time spent with the Lohi on Osuba had been filled with massive, predatory plant-sorts, but not once had she gotten so attached.
For the little creature, bearing all like this hadn’t been witnessed before.
