In her human form, Maleficent is a tall, thin, pale green skinned woman with dark eyes. She wears a long black robe with purple undercutting and a horned crown on her head and carries a large staff with a glowing orb. She has an alternate form which allows her to assume the shape of a colossal black dragon with purple belly scales and glowing green eyes.

Backstory:
After her defeat and death by Prince Philip, Maleficent's threat was thought long gone by most. However, this was not so. A solar eclipse which occurred a few years after her defeat allowed her loyal minion, Diablo, to take her staff and revive the sorceress. Her obvious goal was to have her vengeance against Prince Philip, Aurora, and the three fairies fairies and ultimately to spread her dominion over the world. She was initially weakened after her revival and so decided to seek allies until she was powerful enough to do what she wished.
Her spies told her that there was a growing faction in the Arabian desert calling itself the Blackblood Legion and this was what Maleficent saw as the perfect army to aid her in her goals. Upon arriving in Agrabah, she immediately challenged the current Sultan, Jafar, to a battle of sorcery to take the crown. It son became clear who was the more powerful and Maleficent was crowned Sultana of the Blackblood Legion but as an olive branch (and also because she didn't want to be stabbed in the back later) she offered Jafar his previous position of Grand Viser with the promise he could have Agrabah once her goals were met.
