January 1st, year 1.
Shani's ears twitched as she listened to the hustle and bustle outside of the medic's tent. She hummed to herself quietly as she used her claws to tear up herbs in a small bowl. Every once in a while, the cub would pause, listening as footsteps walked by the tent, but nobody ever entered, and she returned to what she was doing.
"How does this look, Tug?" she asked her mentor.

The hustle and bustle of the camp had become background noise quickly for Tug since the day he had entered the camp. Sure at first it had unnerved him, more use to how quiet and peaceful it was back home but he quickly adapted to the change in environment. He supposed that was because of the help of having people he needed to mentor and focus on more than anything. Either way though, he couldn't help but silently note every little pause that Shani took. His hues looking over at her while he grounded the herbs into a paste. A task that was a lot easier said than done for him!
After all, he didn't really have an opposable thumb, as much as he wished he did. He had been so focused on trying to paste up the herbs that he almost jumped when Shani shook to him. "What- Oh!" He got up from his spot on the floor, lumbering over to the smaller mammal and looking at the herbs. He nodded his big hefty head. "Yep, looking good kid. Keep going!" He reassured happily.

"Hellooo," Rapunzel called in a slight sing song tone as she pushed aside the tent flap and ducked into the Medic tent, "Oh good, Some one told me you guys were in here."
The 'lost princess' was always excited to learn more about her medical training, not just accessing her powers of healing left over from the flower, but also the standard applications of bandaging, herbs, medicines, poultices, and the like. She promptly padded over to Shani and with a little, "hi" to let her know Rapunzel was next to her, she set about patting the top of her head.
Rapunzel had learned really quickly that some of the animal members of the Freedom Fighters actually didn't like to be petted. They found it condescending. She had felt HORRIBLE when she had first found out. She had quickly started learning to ask and get to know the various peacekeepers before hand.
Luckily, Shani didn't mind. Rapunzel and her had become fast friends and so 'Punzie liked to pat the cub often. She still felt a little awkward about the girl's blindness, sometimes. Rapunzel sometimes forgot that she was blind, which lead to awkward back tracking. Other times she would forget how capable the girl was in spite of her blindness, which resulted in Rapunzel coddling Shani sometimes.
It was a bit of a balance, but luckily Shani was a good sport and seemed happy friends with Rapunzel.

Shani let out a small purr at Tug's praise, glad that she was doing her job correctly. She continued her task, until another voice she recognized caused her to look in the direction of the tent flap. She knew the chirpy voice of Rapunzel all too well, the two had become well acquainted with each other not long after Rapunzel had arrived to the Pridelands.
Her ears twitched as she heard Rapunzel's soft footsteps on the canvas floor, and she looked up at the girl even before she had announced herself as she crouched down. Shani felt the soft touch of a hand on the top of her head, and promptly leaned in to Rapunzel's touch. It was a comforting feeling, reminding Shani of when her mother would nuzzle and cuddle her. "Hello Rapunzel," she purred, "did you come in to lend a hand?"

"Yep, two of them!" there were some tasks that she was just better equipped to do, such as operating the mortar and pestle that Tug had been struggling with. Rapunzel stepped over and fetched the half ground up mixture and sat next to Shani cross legged (she also smoothed her skirt like a lady, thank you).
"What are you shredding there? Commiphora?" she cocked her head to look closer at the little lion's paws and the herbs underneath. Commiphora trees had been one of the first things she had been taught due to the bark, roots, and berries many medicinal benefits.
Rapunzel crunched down the mortar against the pestle, giving a little twist each time making sure that the juices were properly expunged. A lot of her medic training was like simple herbs and medicines to start with. However, it was still early in her training and she had been told more extensive anatomical knowledge would be given in time. Baby steps. She was perfectly fine with that.
