Backstory:
Sarafina was not born within the Pridelands. Eldest of a rouge couple's twin daughters she roamed as she pleased for much of her life; first with her family and then following her parents' death at the paws of old age with her sister. They paired up with a single male between the two of them for protection, and he fathered cubs upon the both of them in exchange. It was a mutually beneficial agreement between the trio born upon simple comraderie rather than love. There came a day when the protection of their mutual mate failed. Sarafina along with her daughter Nala and pregnant sister fled as testing the border of what they'd later learn to be the Outlands found them caught between hyena clans, their mate left behind as he protected the rear. Their flight sent them across the border into the Pridelands and by the mercy of then-queen Uru they were permitted to stay and seek refuge.
While Nala grew Sarafina became quite enamored with the prince known as 'Scar'. His brother was to soon be crowned with the announcement of his wife's pregnancy, but he... He had so much more to offer. Such a cunning mind, what a clever tongue. Sarafina wasn't the only lioness vying for his attention however. Initially she found herself in competition with the lioness Zira; a female with the ruthlessness of a striking cobra. As they feuded however Sarafina found herself drawn, surprisingly, to Zira. They were of a like mind and morality, and the angular edges of the darker lioness' form were quite exotic even to her traveled mind.
So combat turned to courtship. It took quite a while for Zira to become convinced that Sarafina's pursuit of her was more than a ploy to steal Scar away; no, Sarafina had decided that she wanted them both. Through perseverance she succeeded. Zira gained a lover with affection much more obtainable than Scar's and together the lionesses easily wooed Scar into joining with them. On Zira he sired Nuka, to Sarafina he sired Mheetu. Neither lioness was terribly pleased when they found that he'd taken Sarabi as well upon becoming king, but spite was an emotion they both understood well and thus they allowed the infraction to pass. The resulting daughter was to be theirs in any case, so what did it matter if they didn't bear her?
With the return of Simba the family found themselves caught in a fight they couldn't hope to win, trapped between lion and hyena alike. Sarafina fled the Pridelands along with her family, taking refuge first in the Outlands and then Agrabah.
