March 5th (directly after the events of expanding borders) She then dismissed them all to their duties, before walking over and plopping down on Hades' throne at the head of the room,
"Alright Varian, let's hear those security ideas." Jenn placed her head on her hand, leaning on one arm of the chair. She knew Hades wouldn't bee too happy if he found her sitting there, but it never stopped her before, so why would it now? She had taken notice of Varian's behavior ever since they arrived here, and she was sure he had a billion questions stewing in his head. "And I'll try to answer any questions you have."

Varian had to give credit where it was due, his mentor was holding up well given the burden of responsibility that had been foisted onto her shoulders, he couldn't say he would have acted with as much grace in the same situation. His attention perked when she started dividing people up, only to brighten considerably when it was clear she was willing to hear his ideas. Sure, most of his security measures in the past had been...Humane...But he was sure he could tweak and modify them to be less so, "yes! Of course! Th-thank you, m-ma'am..." His tone became a little sheepish, and he shuffled a bit to the side to be out of the way while everyone moved around.
When the group was dismissed, Varian watched the gathered assembly disperse with a short promise to find Shanty later to offer his hand to help her, before his attention drew back to Jenn. He hesitated for a moment, there were a lot of things he wanted to know, but there was one thing he had to know, "if I may...Before we get down to brass tacks...Can you...Find out...If someone is...Dead down here?" He said the word with an obvious hesitation, and averted his eyes, the confident bluster his voice usually had tapered to a sheepish crack, "I have to know if my father is down here, Quirin, I..." He reached to slide his goggles off of his head, clearly struggling with his words, "I have to know if he's alive or not..." He almost dreaded the answer, but he had to know.

Jenn chuckled lightly at Varian's stammered words, waving a hand dismissively, "No need for formalities, ma'am makes me sound like an old lady," she joked.
Her lighthearted expression quickly faded to a more stoic one as Varian asked about possibly finding out if someone was down here. She sat up straighter, leaning forward in her seat with a small frown creasing her face. They were in a war, it was entirely possible people might end up finding family or friends down here sooner or later, but she hoped for the Rogues at least, that wouldn't happen for a while. Giving a small sigh, she ran a hand through her hair, "I honestly don't know, Varian. There are a lot of souls down here, and that's more Hades' job than mine..." She noted the worried expression on his face, "Tell you what, I'll ask Hades about it when we're done here. We'll have to run by any security matters by him anyway, I doubt he'd be very happy about any... surprises."

Varian's expression fell just a little when she let him down, and he sighed softly, running a hand through his hair. He understood, of course he did, he didn't entirely understand how all of this underworld stuff worked, but he still understood what she was saying, "if he's down here it's...My fault..." His voice cracked just a little at the last word, he'd had a lot of time to ruminate and think about the things he'd done, and the guilt was starting to eat at him the more he accepted his share of the blame.
His face lifted just a bit though when she promised to speak to Hades, and he gave an enthusiastic nod, "yes...Thank you, it would mean a lot." He shuffled just a bit longer, before snapping his goggled back on and straightening up more, "now! Security!" He chuckled and reached into the satchel he'd brought along, pulling out a few rolled up blueprints, "as I said, I have invented many smaller scale devices to protect my lab and employ humane pest control." He passed one to her, "this one is a simple sticky trap, it throws a vial of my own special compound at the intruders feet, sticking them in place!"
He giggle-snorted, then held out the other one, "but if you're looking for a less human solution, my mechanical sentries are also an option." He chuckled, "they can be programmed to recognize who is and is not on their side..." He tapped his chin thoughtfully, "I am positive though that if none of these plans are acceptable, I can come up with a tailor made security system for whatever entry points you need guarded." He looked around, "I would only need to see the layout of the area to get an idea of the space I'm working with!" He was already going over all the things he would need to do to prepare for this, already thoroughly excited.
