The Gourmand lowered his hand from rubbing under his chin, apparently having cleared whatever was irritating his throat enough to let him breathe comfortably. Blinking, he tilted his head downward. There was a tiny hint of a smile for a moment. Oh at long last, finally someone with good questions. No more of this self-pitying nonsense that marred everyone’s thoughts to the real priorities. The sea beast frowned as he leveled his gaze to the middle distance and addressed the concerns.
“Many of us did not escape the upheaval without injury, myself included. We have victims of pummelings, many have been sliced or stabbed, many mauled by large predators -- although don’t bring that last one up unless you want to incite, hmph, ‘controversy’. Not much controversy to be had when it’s the truth, but,” the Gourmand stifled his annoyance and took a breath, “Of course that digresses. And I cannot speak to the level of mental trauma which permeates the survivors.”
The Gourmand’s irritation faded.
“We have but a handful of standing structures. Efforts are being made to gather lumber. Presently it seems the priority is to build housing to allow for protection and comfort. It’s a slow process, as even some of the able-bodied choose to mope rather than help; I just don’t understand it. Quite annoying really.”
A wicked smile gradually broke through. Deep, chilling laughter escaped his flat teeth and misted the air.
“Heh heh heh. As for dealing with our enemies -- I have a few ideas.”
