(April 1st, Year 1. This is Lesedi's initial introduction as she was not part of the Freedom Fighters and barely knows what happened.)
To say the little meerkat was out of her element would be the biggest understatement in the world.
Lesedi had taken to tunneling underground, something she swore to herself she would never do again. She had tried trudging through the snow, but it was so thick it came up to her chest. The only way she was going to get to her destination was tunnels. Now, being a meerkat, that was something she was naturally good at. But she hated doing it, ever since she left her clan. She had told herself after leaving it was weakness, it was hiding from the world, running from the problem instead of facing it head-on... but at this point, she didn't have any better options. It was so, so, so cold, and Lesedi couldn't feel her paws anymore, just mindlessly digging. It was messy and far from perfect, considering it had been a few years since she had done any digging outside of tiny holes no more than a foot deep. But she was determined.
She had made it here by sheer determination; managing to sneak onto a boat from Africa to North America, and when she caught wind of where the new army had set up in the wake of the Freedom Fighter's collapse, she made it her mission to get there. She was determined to prove herself a worthy warrior, someone the Freedom Fighters-- or rather, what was left of them-- could count on, despite her size and her species. She had missed her first opportunity and wasn't going to waste her second one.
She was so lost in thought that she dug right into a wooden plank, splinters lodging into her front right paw and scratching her pads right open. She sucked in a sharp breath and clasped her left paw to her right, in some attempt to dam the initial bleeding, curling in on herself a bit and cringing from the sudden pain. "Oh FUCK that hurt," she hissed to herself. Slowly the pain subsided a bit and she was able to properly make sense of the situation. Wooden planks usually meant civilization of some kind, right? At least, that was what humans did. Her heart leapt with excitement. Hours of digging and she had finally found SOMEthing!
Using her mostly good paw, she began scraping upper layers of dirt downward and slowly made her way up to the surface. Eventually the soil gave way to grass, and then immediately gave way to snow... several inches worth. Even though her paws were numb and bleeding, she kept digging through and her little blonde head popped up out of her hole. She thickly breathed in the cool, fresh air. And just her look, a very basic wooden shack was right next to her! The little meerkat leapt out of her hole and sniffed at the air, standing upright and at attention. It was a bit hard to make out over the sharp coldness of the air, but there were many, MANY different smells. Had she finally done it?!
"HELLO!!!" she bellowed out, her voice cracking from lack of water, calling out into the snow. "HELLO!!!! IS THERE ANYONE THERE?!"
