April 21st, Year 1
The port of Le Havre, just up north of Paris, was quiet as the overcast sky grew slightly darker, promising light rain. Hopefully, Jay thought to himself, the rain wouldn't turn into a storm. That was the absolute last thing they needed, even if the distance between France and England was not a particularly long one. There was a bit of a chill on the wind that made him shudder a bit and draw the hood of his sweater up over his head, starting to feel tiny drops of rain already falling on them. He hoped the other Rogues that he and Darren were assigned on this mission with would be here soon... if there was a storm moving in, he wanted to depart as soon as possible.
Darren sighed quietly, head bowed. Jay gently took his hand and squeezed it-- though they were both cold, it was still a comforting gesture. "You gonna be okay? You sure you don't want to stay back in Paris?"
Darren just shook his head in response. "No, no, I'll be fine. I'm just... kind of nervous."
"Why's that? I've heard Taylor and Bob are pretty cool, they shouldn't--"
"No, it's not about them. I'm just... more worried that going by boat will make me seasick. My stomach has been so messed up, and I am so tired of puking constantly."
Oh, right... Jay gently rubbed his back sympathetically. "You should be ok, sweetheart. I'll hold your hair if you do end up puking," he added with a laugh.
Poor Darren had fallen pretty ill after the battle between the Rogues and the Blackbloods not too long ago, where he had gotten badly poisoned by a radioactive Blackblood. His symptoms seemed to come and go in waves; one day he would be fairly normal, if a bit shaky and lethargic, and then the next he would be throwing up constantly and not even be able to get out of bed.
Darren has insisted he would be fine, he felt better, but Jay was still anxious... his boyfriend had a tendency to hide signs of weakness until he was truly suffering, and he had initially insisted he stay back in the Court of Miracles to rest. But Darren truly did seem to be having a decent day and had not been getting sick as often. So Jay gave him the benefit of the doubt and let him come with, so long as Jay was with him at all times.
"You'll be fine," Jay assured him again, hugging him close and giving him a gentle peck on the cheek.
"I hope so. Thanks, Jay," Darren still sounded unsure but smiled and hugged back. He loved his boyfriend so much, it made him feel so good that Jay was really that concerned for him. His train of thought was interrupted as he spotted an equine and humanoid figure heading toward the docks from a ways away. "Oh, hey, that's them! Sweet! Hey! Over here!" He stuck his arm out from the hug and waved furiously, trying to get their attention.
