"on a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your pain?"
Full Name: Baymax
Known Aliases: n/a
Army: Dawnseekers
Rank: Medic Cadet
Franchise: Big Hero 6 by Disney
Gender: Male
Age: n/a
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 60lb
Physical Description: He's big. He's soft. He's huggable. He's a giant, inflatable, walking marshmallow, snowman, or white balloon. Non-threatening and gentle by design, Baymax is about as soft as he looks. Relatively simple in design, his legs are stubby while his arms are long with four fingers each. He's entirely white except on his head. On his head (which can actually turn 180 degrees), are his black eyes with a line connecting them. His eyes are actually hyperspectral cameras he uses to see and scan people, animals, and his environment. On his left chest is a port that he can open or close and lock at will. It's able to contain four chips. Covered in white vinyl, his inner workings can only be seen if one looks deep into the vinyl. Inside, his skeleton is made up of flexible carbon-fiber, wires, and plastic. Baymax also comes with a traveling case that also serves as his charging platform. Due to his flexible skeleton and ability to completely inflate and deflate at will, he can fold himself up in the case for easy transportation and then inflate when needed or wanted.
Personality: Programmed first and foremost as an AI nurse robot, Baymax's official title is "Healthcare Companion". He's polite, compassionate, friendly, devoted, and very intellectual when it comes to the medical field. He's equipped to do anything (and will almost do anything) that can help patients including having a central warming and cooling system, different antibiotics and medical equipment, defibrillators, and an interactive screen that can provide diagrams and other information pertaining to a person's health.
As a robot, Baymax at first was perplexed by human idioms, culture, and anything outside his realm of vast medical knowledge. Naive, observant, impressionable, and curious about humans, Baymax would often get sidetracked and distracted and start mimicking things or expression he had seen his friends do. He was rather straight forward and literal-minded, unable to comprehend sudden death using his record of past scans and human emotion. However, once companionship seemed to help to Hiro, Baymax started to understand and take on more human-like traits and stray from his initial programming to gaining a personality all his own.
It must be noted that although some of his personality has formed on his own, it is highly dependent upon what chip is placed in his system. When his original chip is inserted, he is as above. However, if that chip were to be taken out and replaced by another chip, Baymax's personality would conform to the coding. That is not to say that both his health care chip and another chip cannot exist side by side. Although, when that does happen, his health care protocol usually takes precedence, unless, of course, the other chip overrides it somehow.
Above all, when he's himself, aside from being a health care robot and taking care of those in his charge, he has vowed never to harm another person. Violence is not always the answer. There's always another, creative way. There's always the radical way: compassion and healing.
Backstory: Baymax took 84 trials to perfect. Tadashi created as a huggable robot nurse in the hopes of helping people and providing and improving quality health care worldwide. However, Tadashi died soon after in a fire at his college's science fair while trying to rescue one of his professors inside. Some weeks later, Baymax reactivated when Hiro expressed signs of distress. As the robot tried to understand his creator's death, he also took Hiro as his patient. Baymax initially diagnosed Hiro with puberty, but after observing emotional pain as a different kind of hurt, he downloaded a database on personal loss, determined to help Hiro in however way he could.
Unfortunately, Baymax's helpful nature enabled Hiro to seek revenge. The teen slowly, but surely, came to the conclusion that the accidental fire which caused the death of his brother wasn't so accidental. Baymax, wanting to help Hiro's pubescent mood swings and emotional hurt, went along with his human companion to start investigating. Soon after, they were attacked by a man in a mask. Wanting to help Hiro find closure and possible justice for Tadashi, Baymax and Tadashi's friends agreed to help Hiro. For this mission, Hiro made Baymax a new chip and inserted next to his health care one. This chip gave Baymax fighting ability, while a new suit gave him wings, thrusters, and protective armor. Suiting up as superheroes, the gang arrived at the masked man's headquarters to confront him, believing him to be the one behind the fire that killed Tadashi and theft of one of Hiro's inventions at the science fair.
Upon confession, insult was added to injury when the gang realized that the man in the mask was the man that Tadashi had gone back to rescue. The man confessed that the fire was indeed intentional. Then, he told Hiro it was Tadashi's own fault that he died. Blinded by rage, Hiro threw Tadashi's health care chip out of Baymax's port, leaving only the fighting one. After it loaded, Baymax's eyes turned red, and he turned into a killer robot. He would have killed the man if it weren't for Tadashi's friends putting in his usual chip. Although Baymax was back to normal, the man got away.
Finally, after some prodding from Baymax who was concerned about the lengths Hiro was willing to go for revenge and a past recording from Tadashi, Hiro came around to realizing his mistake in seeking cold-blooded revenge. The gang suited up and went after the man again; and this time, they did it right: no violence, just traps. They thought it was all over, but at the last second, another invention changed everything. A portal that led to another dimension had sucked in a bystander - Hiro and Baymax went in to help.
With Baymax's thrusters damaged, he said goodbye to Hiro and shot him out of the vortex, leaving his shell to float adrift. However, all was not lost. Hiro discovered Baymax's chip and rebuilt his shell. With another fighting chip that existed peacefully with his health care chip, Baymax, Hiro, and the gang went on to continue helping others around San Fransokyo.
Then Hiro got word of something happening in Canada. Following his human companion, Baymax figured he could offer his services as a health robot. He was pretty sure that people who fought needed physical, mental, and emotional care. He's content just being a medic. That is what he was made to do. However, if the need should arise and Hiro or anyone else need help, he'd be willing to suit up once again.
