Physical Description:
Sparks is a hare that is unusually massive, as is the wont of several animals in his particular jungle. His fur is medium-short, scruffy and light grey. He has small white flecks on his body, primarily on his upper legs. Grass bandages are wrapped around his missing right front paw. He also has bandages wrapped around his head. These must be replaced with fresh leaves regularly. His left ear appears to have been severely singed at some point. He has wide, staring, pale yellow eyes.
Personality:
Sparks is usually meek and socially awkward, but means well. He's somewhat overly-friendly. He is plagued with episodes in which he has difficulty perceiving the world around him, likely a result of the wound in his head that appeared to have jumbled up his memories. Despite this, Sparks is capable of being very reasonable under normal circumstances. He is easily frightened and avoids conflict, but not is quite a pacifist as he will fight if he is backed into a corner. He feels obligated to help everyone but has been known to refuse to heal those who have hurt him in the past. He seems wary of humans.
Backstory:
Sparks, while he was the only healer of the small tribe of animals living deep in the jungle, never got much respect. This may be due to his scraggly appearance, or his neurotic behavior, but chiefly it had to do with the influence of the leader of the tribe, the great cobra, Negative. Negative had a difficult time respecting anyone who wasn't in his inner circle. He was so biased he frequently allowed his then-current deputy to bully the citizens of his tribe. Sparks only found solace in his close friends, Dapple, a blind antelope, and Cicatrix the gaur who would become like a father to him.
When Negative's former deputy was banished for his murderous streak and the lioness Tzarina came to replace him, Sparks saw no reason to believe she would be any different. However, it became clear there was an odd connection between him and the mean windbag. Eventually, she would accept Sparks as her mate. Sparks tries to encourage her to be more empathetic toward others, as she had been to him, not wanting the lower members of the tribe to continue to suffer like they had under Negative.
Sparks was chosen to accompany Tzarina when Negative sent her out into the world outside the jungle to gather information on behalf of the tribe. Though Sparks is not confrontational like Tzarina is, he finds it difficult to mind his own business, feeling a healer's instinct to try and help everybody.
