Zira is a light tan lioness with cream undertones and crimson eyes. She has a brown dorsal stripe running from her forehead to her shoulder blades and has a large notch taken out of her right ear. She is rather thin and wiry for a lioness and her claws are permanently extended.

Backstory:
Zira was born in the Pridelands, but her mother was not held in high regards. Before Zira and her twin, Nunka, were born she had attempted to seduce Ahadi from under Uru's nose and had subsequently been not only severely beaten by the Lion Queen but also banished to the lowest rankings of the pride, just barely saved from outright banishment by the fact she was now pregnant with a rogue's cubs (cubs she had intended to pass off as Ahadi's).
Unfortunately, her twin brother, Nunka didn't survive and one day just never woke up which broke young Zira's heart. Their mother didn't care, however, and this was reflected in the twins very names: Zira was hate, the rage and anger that Zainabu felt given form and Nunka was "rotten away". Her mother's treatment of her and her indifference at Nunka's death made the young cub hate her mother with a passion. Added to this, Zira was the target of bullying from the other cubs of the pride spurred on by their mother's bad-mouthing Zainabu. She nurtured a deep hatred for all the cubs of the pride who made her and Nunka’s lives a misery, letting it fester in her heart until it turned her bitter. However, there was one cub who she didn’t loathe and instead admired: Prince Taka (or Scar as he preferred to be known). In him she saw a kindred spirit, someone who was also rejected and despised by others.
When she was a teenager, her mother had another cub she named Tama. Her mother doted on her new sibling much more than she ever had Zira or Nunka and so jealousy festered and increased the hatred she felt. One night, Zira snapped, she took her infant half-sister and left her in the long grasses just close enough to Priderock that she could easily be found when she started mewing for milk then Zira’s attention turned to her mother. The fight was brutal and in the end Zira’s ear got a chunk ripped out of it as she had her mother’s throat clamped in her jaws. “This is for Nunka.” She whispered as her mother died at her feet. She would say that her mother was murdered by hyenas since tensions were high at that point and no one ever questioned her. Tama was found and raised by another pride member as an orphan and Zira wanted nothing to do with her sister even if she didn’t wish her death.
In her young adult years, Zira sought out Scar’s affections, desperate for the one person who hadn’t treated her as lesser for her mother’s crimes. Yet, she had a rival, a pretty young rogue named Sarafina. All Zira wanted to do was claw the other lioness’s face and ruin her good looks, but she was clever and charismatic where Zira was not. An unexpected twist happened when Sarafina began to court her as well as the lion they had been vying for, initially she suspected a trap and wanted nothing to do with her but in the end, she found herself falling for Sarafina’s charms despite herself. They and Scar would form a happy and fruitful trio.
When Scar ascended to the throne, Zira took her place as co-queen with her mates. Scar’s mating with Sarabi after his ascension threw the lioness into a violent rage and if not for Sarafina’s cooler head then the dowager queen would have found herself at the end of Zira’s claws. Soon, she had a cub of her own, a small male named Nuka who was born somewhat sickly and undersized compared to his healthier half-brother Mheetu. She did love her son, but she couldn’t help but stew over her failure to provide a suitable heir for her beloved husband. With the addition of Sarabi’s daughter, Kula, their family grew again. In the young cub, Zira saw herself, unwanted by her mother and left to find her own way in a world which was cruel. She couldn’t help but bring the cub under her wing and try to teach her what she knew, how to be fierce and stand up despite the hatred that followed her.
Finally, just before Simba’s return, Zira had another cub this time a little female she named Vitani. The cub so resembled Zira’s own mother that she almost recoiled and left the cub to die of exposure, the memories of her mother were so strong. However, maternal instinct was stronger, and Zira found herself promising that her daughter would be nothing like her mother. She’d be a strong girl. A warrior. Not long after Vitani’s birth Zira also stumbled across an abandoned cub in the long grasses around her birthing den and seeing how like her beloved mate he looked, took him and started nursing him alongside her daughter naming him Kovu. She would later tell Sarafina the truth about her little son but Scar she let believe that the cub was his own and Vitani’s littermate.
Simba’s return sent all of her family into exile in Agrabah and Zira happily threw herself into the war intending to make Simba and Sarafina’s eldest brat pay for what they had done. Scar’s death was like a blow she felt personally, and this has hardened her even more. She lives now for her children, remaining mate, and the promise of bloody vengeance on Simba and his ilk.
