May 8th
It was high tide at the rocky shoreline. As spring was moving in and the sky was clear, the sun was pleasantly warm overhead. However, the ocean had not yet begun to lose it's winter chill. This was all the more apparent as the Gourmand had the gathered Dawnseekers standing a foot deep in the tumbling waves.
The merman himself had his pod hovering several yards further out. The first few minutes of the training session consisted mostly of silence as the Gourmand made final preparations on the spell he planned to cast specifically for the occasion: a large glowing bottle of enigmatic cyan contained a strange material that seemed to be both liquid and sand at the same time was eventually revealed as he lifted his right arm from under the control panel of his machine.
“Good morning soldiers. I trust you're already aware of what we have planned for today.”
The Gourmand gave a quick look to the potion as he rolled it in his hand.
“As intelligence has recently collected, the threat what we experienced in the oceans has seemingly gone into remission. I, as one of your military leaders, believe it would be in our best interests to secure the territory, as it would allow us ample resources and added protection from our enemies.”
He leaned back in his seat, tilting his head and smirking somewhat. He seemed strangely excited.
“Regardless of whether you believe this ambition is achievable, we will be taking our first small step today. As the bulk of the army are you land-dweller types, you will need first to become acquainted with Oceania. I do realize the water is a tad nippy-- I can't control that.”
The Gourmand gave a gruff cluck at what was supposedly a joke before his expression snapped back into sternness like a rubber band. The bright bottle was brought up to draw attention to it.
“The spell I am about to cast will transform every land-dweller here into some manner of swimming creature for one hour. Understand? One hour. That's the best I can do for now.
"If you happen to find swimming something of a difficulty, one of my hatchlings can assist you...if they're around.”
The Gourmand cast a dry look to one side if him. Then, he held the potion above his head, his nails digging into the glass.
“Prepare yourselves…”
The warlord tightened his fist. The glass cracked then curched. Upon being released, the potion instantly spread out into a glittering cloud of purple, blue and green. Quickly, the Dawnseekers were enveloped and the transformation began.
